Maureen Porette, 51, had apparently taken to Facebook with an announcement for a May 3 campaign kick-off event in Nyack, according to lohud.com, which reported that Porette later removed the post.
Answering a question from a reporter via the social network, Porette claimed that she will attempt to earn her party’s nomination, according to lohud.com, which said that Porette did not return messages seeking comment and Democratic Party Chairwoman Kristen Zebrowski Stavisky declined to comment.
If Porette is planning to challenge Day, she’ll have her work cut out for her.
Day, a 65-year-old Republican, enjoys a great deal of popularity in Rockland and has about $500,000 readily available for the campaign, according to lohud.com.
